SkinPen microneedling is the most-popular treatment at SkynBar of Atlanta, located in the heart of Buckhead. It is ideal for those in the pursuit of skin rejuvenation and aging prevention. SkinPen microneedling is a quick, minimal-downtime procedure that allows for the significant enhancement of skin texture, tone, pore size, complexion, scarring, melanoma, pigmentation, wrinkles, and numerous skin imperfections. At SkynBar of Atlanta in Buckhead, we offer different SkinPen microneedling depths to condition and support your skin needs.

SkinPen microneedling also pairs well with other topical treatments – such as anti-aging cream or serum – and lasers. Your SkynBar of Atlanta aesthetician can apply anti-aging preparations that penetrate better through the SkinPen microneedling punctures, which can turbocharge your collagen building.

What is SkinPen Microneedling

SkinPen microneedling is also known as collagen-induction therapy because it is used to treat skin concerns by helping your body produce collagen. This minimally invasive treatment can reduce the appearance of stretch marks, acne scars, and sunspots.

If you’re in good health and have certain skin concerns that haven’t responded to home treatments or other types of procedures – including peels – then you may be an ideal candidate for SkinPen microneedling at SkynBar of Atlanta.

How Does SkinPen Microneedling Work?

SkinPen microneedling creates microscopic punctures in the skin, which encourages your skin to produce collagen. Simply put, very fine, short needles are inserted into your skin using a dermaroller. These micro-fine needles range in diameter from 0.5 and 2.5 millimeters and feel like tiny pinpricks. The idea is that these pinpricks cause slight injury to your skin, causing your skin to respond by making new collagen-rich tissue.

Why is collagen production important? Because, over time, your skin loses collagen to age or injury. By encouraging collagen production, the new skin tissue that is regenerated is more even in tone and texture. In addition, by encouraging the skin to make new tissue, there may be more collagen to help make the skin firmer, too.

Our experience at SkynBar of Atlanta is that SkinPen microneedling offers immediate results. Your skin will look plump, pink, and luminous. Your skin will also look more radiant.

Frequently Asked Questions

What can SkinPen Microneedling treat?

SkinPen microneedling is most often used on your face to target:

+ Fine lines and wrinkles
+ Acne scars
+ Uneven skin tone
+ Age spots (also called sunspots)
+ Reduced skin elasticity
+ Large pores
+ Other types of scars

What should I expect?

During the procedure at our Buckhead office of SkynBar of Atlanta, we will make small pricks under your skin with the SkinPen microneedling device. The pinpricks are so small that you likely won’t notice them after the procedure. You SkynBar of Atlanta aesthetician will move the dermaroller evenly across your skin so that the new skin that rejuvenates will be even, too.

Even though the SkinPen microneedling pinpricks are slight, we will apply a topical anesthetic about an hour prior to your treatment to reduce the chance of pain. The actual SkinPen microneedling process takes approximately 30 minutes, but you can expect to be at SkynBar of Atlanta for a couple of hours.

After your SkinPen microneedling treatment, your skin works quickly to rejuvenate new tissue. In theory, you should see results within a couple of weeks.

To maintain the results of your treatment, you may need multiple sessions and perhaps other complementing treatments. Your SkynBar of Atlanta aesthetician will advise you on the best plan of action based on your individual goals.

How do I prepare for my SkinPen Microneedling treatment?

When scheduling your SkinPen microneedling appointment at SkynBar of Atlanta, let us know of any medications you are taking, including ibuprofen and those for acne treatment. We may also recommend that you stop using topical retinoids beforehand, too, as doing so may reduce the risk of certain side effects.

Is there any downtime?

Most of our patients at SkynBar of Atlanta do not require any downtime after a SkinPen microneedling treatment, but if you do, the downtime should be minimal. You may notice skin irritation and redness within the first few days following the procedure. This is a natural response to the small “injuries” made by the needles in your skin.

If you’re comfortable, you can go back to work or school immediately after the procedure. Some of our SkynBar of Atlanta clients apply camouflaging makeup during the first few days as the redness dissipates.

Because your skin will be more sensitive to the sun, sunscreen is a must.

What are the risks or side effects?

Like all cosmetic procedures, SkinPen microneedling isn’t without risk. The most common side effect is minor skin irritation immediately following the procedure. You may also see redness for a few days. In addition, you may not be an ideal candidate for SkinPen microneedling if you:

+ Have certain skin diseases, such as psoriasis or eczema
+ Have a history of skin scars
+ Have open wounds
+ Are pregnant
+ Have had radiation therapy recently

How much does SkinPen Microneedling cost?

At SkynBar of Atlanta, we offer individual SkinPen microneedling treatments, as well as packages. Individual treatments are $300, but add-ons are available, including cocktails to lift and tighten your skin. Because SkinPen microneedling is considered a cosmetic or aesthetic procedure, it’s not covered by insurance. Your doctor may be able to help you afford your treatments better by structuring a payment plan for you. Some offices even offer financing.

Can't I just use home dermarollers?

Many of our SkynBar of Atlanta clients ask us why they can’t self-treat at home rather than opt for SkinPen microneedling. The answer is, you can, but you won’t achieve the same results. Unlike professional SkinPen microneedling, home rollers barely puncture the skin, and it is the punctures that induce skin rejuvenation.

If you’re interested in more dramatic, long-term results, SkinPen microneedling is always the better option than a store-bought roller device.
